Donald Trump<\/a> might believe that he knows the Art of the Deal, but Vladimir Putin<\/a> knows better.\u00a0<\/p>\n

That\u2019s why he is laughing at the US<\/a> President \u2013 but there\u2019s nothing funny about it, because Ukraine<\/a> is paying the price.\u00a0<\/p>\n

This week, when Trump eagerly awaited a call from the Russian leader, Putin made him wait over an hour while he enjoyed an event in Moscow. This wasn\u2019t a scheduling mix-up or a simple delay \u2013 it was a calculated display of power.\u00a0<\/p>\n

And when the call finally happened, despite what Trump had previously claimed, Putin didn\u2019t budge on ending the war<\/a>. Quelle surprise.<\/p>\n

Putin had, according to a US readout, told Trump he would stop attacks on Ukrainian energy infrastructure<\/a>. But there is no sign he was telling the truth.\u00a0<\/p>\n

And why would he? Putin is not here to negotiate. He\u2019s not interested in peace. He\u2019s here to win. And winning means flattening Ukraine until they concede to his unreasonable demands, ceding land and authority.\u00a0<\/p>\n

He spent last year\u2019s campaign trail claiming he\u2019d <a href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/2023\/07\/17\/donald-trump-reveals-how-hed-end-the-russia-ukraine-war-in-24-hours-19144320\/\">end the war in 24 hours<\/a> if only we gave him the chance.<\/p>\n<p>Like all of Trump\u2019s grand promises, it was questionable whether it was true, and he now even claims he was being \u2018a little bit sarcastic\u2019 when he made that pledge.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Far from getting the President of Russia to agree to a peace deal,\u00a0he couldn\u2019t even get Putin to pick up the phone on time.\u00a0<\/p>\n<figure class=\"img-container shareable-item wp-caption\">\n<div class=\"img-wrap\">\n\t\t<img decoding=\"async\" width=\"646\" height=\"517\" src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAAAACH5BAEKAAEALAAAAAABAAEAAAICTAEAOw==\" class=\"article-image wp-image-22751874 lazyload\" loading=\"lazy\" data-src=\"http:\/\/softnary.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/SEI_244327534-480f.jpg\">\t<\/div><figcaption>Trump tries to act like he\u2019s a master negotiator (Picture: SSgt. Danny Gonzalez\/DoD \/ SWNS)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Worse still, Russia\u2019s refusal to engage in meaningful ceasefire talks exposes the lie at the heart of Trump\u2019s \u2018peace plan.\u2019\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Russia doesn\u2019t want one.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Putin\u2019s delay is a calculated humiliation, a public display of the power imbalance. In the world of fragile male ego politics, punctuality is a signal of dominance.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Trump tries to act like he\u2019s a master negotiator, but Putin treats him like a hapless contestant on a Russian version of The Apprentice. He\u2019s not testing Trump\u2019s resolve \u2013 he\u2019s denying its existence and toying with the supposed \u2018most powerful man in the world\u2019.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Putin\u2019s rejection of a ceasefire isn\u2019t about strategy \u2013 it\u2019s about survival. If Ukraine is left defenceless while Russia rearms, any ceasefire would be a countdown to another invasion.<\/p>\n<p>For all the bluster and grandstanding, this basic fact remains: Ukraine has agreed to a ceasefire. Russia has not. As we scramble to fix Trump\u2019s mess, Putin is watching it all, calculating his next moves.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>As he does, one thing is clear: he\u2019s not negotiating with Trump \u2013 he\u2019s laughing at him.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>As tempting as it is to revel in the President\u2019s misfortune, it\u2019s not Trump paying the ultimate price.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s Ukraine\u2019s brave soldiers.
