Discussions about sexual assault, paedophilia and mass shootings<\/a> grow more and more violent<\/a> as I dive into some of the darkest corners of the internet.<\/p>\n Stephen Graham<\/a>\u2019s new crime<\/a> drama Adolescence<\/a> on Netflix<\/a> has recently shone a light on the brutality of incel culture in Britain and how it develops online.<\/p>\n Metro<\/a> has decided not to name the website in question, but a quick Google search led us to this disturbing world<\/a>.<\/p>\n Apart from having to answer a few questions from moderation staff after signing up, my time was spent as a silent observer, sifting through a small portion of the 10 million posts.<\/p>\n So, what do incels really think \u2013 and say \u2013 about women?<\/p>\n As it turns out, this is not just a group of people frustrated they cannot get a date.<\/p>\n Most members I encountered believe that women\u2019s true value is the ability to procreate and to fulfil the sexual desires of men.<\/p>\n In fact, to incels, women are not even seen as human.<\/p>\n On November 25, 2024 Metro<\/strong> launched This Is Not Right, a year-long campaign to address the relentless epidemic of violence against women.<\/p>\n With the help of our partners at Women’s Aid, This Is Not Right aims to shine a light on the sheer scale of this national emergency.<\/p>\n You can find more articles here<\/a><\/strong>, and if you want to share your story with us, you can send us an email at vaw@metro.co.uk<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n Read more:<\/strong><\/p>\n Incels blame them for their perceived failures to receive what is \u2018rightfully owed\u2019 in life.<\/p>\n That is because women always go for \u2018Chads\u2019 \u2013 the archetypical white alpha male, who is tall, muscular, square-jawed and with a full head of hair, who are seen as sexually desirable.<\/p>\n Women on the website are often referred to as \u2018foids\u2019 \u2013 used to indicate that they are not fully human, and are either sub-human or \u2018other\u2019.<\/p>\n This has led incels to develop further disturbing theories that women are to be sexually assaulted and physically abused.<\/p>\n \u2018Anyone wished they could go back to high school so they could rape foids with insufficient consequences?\u2019, one member wrote.<\/p>\n \u2018I\u2019m extremely jealous of the f*<\/strong>g babycels on here, 15 or 16-years-olds on here while going to school surrounded by all that fresh, virgin p***y.<\/p>\n \u2018It makes me go mad at how stupid they are for not taking advantage of status as babies in society and not raping their foid classmates.<\/p>\n \u2018This is literally the only time you will be surrounded in your life with the freshest and tightest p***y ever and yet you do nothing but watch all the little chads f**k them instead.\u2019<\/p>\n Another with the name of \u2018Scarborough Rapist\u2019 replied: \u2018Not rape but I would wait for them to slip up and do or say stupid s**t to me so that I can beat the s**t out of them.\u2019<\/p>\n A third one commented: \u2018I 100% see your point. As a kid you can kiss and grope without serious consequences. \u2018<\/p>\n Further recent threads discussed \u2018Why ethnic men are dating white women\u2019, \u2018If a woman is attracted to you, do you have the right to rape her?\u2019 and \u2018I got accused of rape.\u2019<\/p>\n Another recent post read: \u2018The ideal life as a man is to f**k as many virgin foids as possible.\u2019<\/p>\n As I joined the website in November, nominations and voting was taking place for the annual Incel Awards \u2013 the first major community event.<\/p>\n Categories include \u2018incel of the year\u2019, \u2018best lurker\u2019, \u2018biggest retard\u2019, and \u2018funniest incel\u2019.<\/p>\n Alongside \u2018foid\u2019, \u2018normie\u2019, \u2018Chad\u2019, \u2018blackpill\u2019 and \u2018redpill\u2019, \u2018roping\u2019 is also one of the specialist terms often used on the site, which boasts almost 20,000 members.<\/p>\n Discussions about suicide linked to male depression are open, and men who show an interest in that are encouraged and praised as brave.<\/p>\n Members often complain about \u2018incel struggles\u2019 under the hashtag \u2018suicide fuel\u2019 on the website.<\/p>\n One wrote: \u2018Imagine being an incel and finally have a family, but your son turns out to be a f*g.\u2019<\/p>\n \u2018Looking at fellow currycells [a derogative term for Indian incels] getting foids and having sex is the biggest suicide,\u2019 a member said.<\/p>\n Another thread accused women of \u2018promoting male suicide\u2019 and encouraging \u2018ugly men to commit suicide\u2019.<\/p>\n \u2018They want us culled,\u2019 a member replied. \u2018Women are evil,\u2019 another posted.<\/p>\n One of the comments read: \u2018That\u2019s why you should never kill yourself. You are giving women a victory.\u2019<\/p>\n A number of incels spoke openly about how their life will likely end with suicide, turning the forum feeds into a dark, self-loathing echo-chamber \u2013 and once you are in, it is hard to leave without help.<\/p>\n Like any other website, there are rules \u2013 albeit unsure how strict moderation staff are \u2013 that even incels have to obey to remain part of the community.<\/p>\n Firstly, women and anyone for the LGBTQ+ community are forbidden from joining and those who are not incels.<\/p>\n Members are told not to request personal romantic or sexual experiences, even if they happened a long time ago, or even discuss it \u2013 though this rule seem to be ignored quite often.<\/p>\n Perhaps one of the most disturbing rules is that moderation staff were forced to ban any content which \u2018sexualises minors in any way, shape or form\u2019.<\/p>\n Introduced only this March, it was changed two days later to \u2018do not sexualise pre-pubescent minors in any way, shape or form\u2019.<\/p>\n Another rule banned any \u2018gay or LGBT content\u2019, unless members were criticising it.<\/p>\n Posts celebrating an incel \u2018going ER\u2019 \u2013 committing an indiscriminate mass murder, particularly one that targets women \u2013 are allowed on the website.<\/p>\n But a member saying they plan to \u2018go ER\u2019 or are encouraging a fellow to do it are forbidden.<\/p>\n The term \u2018incel\u2019 seems to be everywhere after the release of Netflix\u2019s Adolescence four-part series.<\/p>\n It stands for \u2018involuntary celibate\u2019. In its most basic form, it describes someone, usually a man, who sees himself as unable to attract women sexually.<\/p>\n They are part of an \u2018unclear or unstable ideology that supports extreme violence\u2019, according to the UK government.<\/p>\n It targets a \u2018perceived other\u2019 of some kind (perhaps based on gender or another protected characteristic), but does not otherwise identify with a particular terrorist ideology or cause.<\/p>\n A study on incels published on the UK government\u2019s website identifies them as men in their mid-20s, heterosexual and childless. <\/p>\n Though the majority of the exclusively US and UK sample were white, it was ethnically diverse, with 42% self-identifying as a person of colour.<\/p>\n In line with previous research, incels typically display extremely poor mental health, with high incidences of depression and suicidal ideation.<\/p>\n They acknowledge a shared worldview which includes identifying all feminists as a primary enemy.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n If left unchecked, incel culture has the potential to radicalise beyond the realm of social media.<\/p>\n Such sites promoting hate against women have been under scrutiny for years, and Reddit<\/a> has previously shut down incel subreddits with tens of thousands of users.<\/p>\n Though there are members from across the world, a week after I join an \u2018oldcel\u2019 \u2013 someone whose inceldom can be attributed to being desexualised due to their old age \u2013 sets up a weekly meetup for UK-based incels in London<\/a>.<\/p>\n According to the Center for Countering Digital Hate (CCDH), almost half of the web traffic for an incel forum originates from the US between April and June 2022.<\/p>\n Meanwhile, the UK accounted for 7.5% of traffic to the site during the same period, amounting to an average of 182,159 visits a month.<\/p>\n But the number of people self-identifying as incels in the UK is still unclear.<\/p>\n A report<\/a> from CCDH in September stressed the network has a small but active membership \u2018at risk of suffering harm and harming others, but poses a threat to a wider audience of visitors as well\u2019.<\/p>\n The non-profit, which works to counter\u00a0the spread of disinformation and online hate, called for the deranking of incelosphere sites in Google search and the deplatforming of such YouTube channels.<\/p>\n Further recommendations include addressing digital harms to children that drive users into incelosphere communities.<\/p>\n \u2018There is a growing consensus that social media platforms must do more to keep children safe online,\u2019 the report read.<\/p>\n For emotional support you can call the\u00a0Samaritans<\/a>\u00a024-hour helpline on\u00a0116 123<\/strong>, email\u00a0jo@samaritans.org<\/a>, visit\u00a0a Samaritans branch in person<\/a>\u00a0or go to\u00a0the Samaritans website<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n Get in touch with our news team by emailing us at webnews@metro.co.uk<\/a>.<\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n![\"\"](\"http:\/\/softnary.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/SEC_138359437-c35a.jpg\")
