Here\u2019s something my friends and family have never heard before: I\u2019m completely lost for words.\u00a0<\/p>\n

It\u2019s taken me unusually long to gather my thoughts for this column because I just couldn\u2019t find what to say.<\/p>\n

My opinion<\/a> of Donald Trump<\/a> isn\u2019t exactly a secret, my disdain for his dangerous approach to\u00a0Ukraine<\/a> is well-documented, but even I didn\u2019t see his most recent move coming.<\/p>\n

Trump <\/a>says he wants peace, but at every turn, he is punishing Ukraine, not Russia<\/a>. He said he was tired of watching Ukrainian people die.\u00a0<\/p>\n

So why is he apparently preparing to deport 240,000 of them straight back into the jaws of a deadly war zone?\u00a0<\/p>\n

Reports at home and abroad suggest that the President is going to revoke the protections they\u2019ve enjoyed in the US since fleeing the conflict.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Let that sink in for a moment. These 240,000 humans are not abstract statistics \u2013 that\u2019s a quarter of a million mothers, fathers, and children who escaped Putin\u2019s missiles and brutality.<\/p>\n

There are no words to describe the wave of despair I felt upon hearing this news. My initial reaction isn\u2019t printable. But as I paced my room, a mixture of frustration and emotion simmering, my phone lit up as friends texted me in complete disbelief<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The conclusion was unanimous. Evil. Not just pure evil, but evil on a historic and unprecedented scale.<\/p>\n

families will be on Trump\u2019s hands as much as they are on Putin\u2019s.<\/p>\n<p>Families like Yulia\u2019s, whose story I recently read about.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>They fled Ukraine through unimaginable hardship days trapped in terrifying uncertainty, enduring relentless missile attacks, panic attacks, and severe deprivation.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Upon finally reaching safety in Arlington, Virginia, Yulia and her family began rebuilding their lives: finding jobs, enrolling their children in schools, and becoming valued members of their new community.\u00a0<\/p>\n<figure have historically united around principles of honour, freedom, and protecting the vulnerable.<\/p>\n<p>There are countless examples through the centuries. He is squeezing what little soul the country has left under the guise that it\u2019s about being \u2018fair\u2019 to America.<\/p>\n<p>But Trump doesn\u2019t understand the meaning of the word \u2018fair.\u2019 His vision is blurred by his obvious <a href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/2025\/02\/25\/russia-successfully-flipped-donald-trump-form-trumputin-pact-22620472\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/2025\/02\/25\/russia-successfully-flipped-donald-trump-form-trumputin-pact-22620472\/\">admiration for Vladmir Putin<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>If Trump wants \u2018fair\u2019 compensation for the cost of supporting Ukraine, why is he demanding it from the invaded, not the invader?\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Right now, there\u2019s over $300 billion of frozen Russian assets sitting idle in Europe. Last week, <a href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/2025\/03\/05\/keir-starmers-approval-rating-revealed-week-high-stakes-ukraine-talks-22675241\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/2025\/03\/05\/keir-starmers-approval-rating-revealed-week-high-stakes-ukraine-talks-22675241\/\">Keir Starmer<\/a> announced plans to use frozen Russian assets to fund increased support for Ukraine.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>America could do the same, but Trump isn\u2019t interested in genuine fairness or peace.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>He\u2019s committed to punishing the victim, not the aggressor.<\/p>\n<p>Trump\u2019s potential deportation of refugees isn\u2019t just abandoning Ukraine; it\u2019s abandoning America\u2019s own moral compass.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>If America allows compassion and core values to be replaced by cruelty and cynicism, it loses something far more valuable than geopolitical power.
