A ‘loving mother’ who was found dead in a house in a Manchester suburb has been named as Clare Burns.

Burns, 51, was found after police were called to Queens Road, Harpurhey, at about 4am yesterday.

Leonard Lee Stewart, 55, of Queens Road, Manchester, has been arrested on suspicion of murder.

Burns’ family said they would ‘miss her dearly’, describing her as a ‘loving mother, auntie, sister and daughter’.

‘She was funny, outgoing and a very independent person. She was also kind, generous and friendly to anyone she met,’ they said.

‘Clare would always light up the room she entered, and she was a brilliant friend to many.’

The family of a woman who was sadly found deceased at an address in Harpurhey yesterday have released a heartfelt tribute. It comes after we were called to an address on Queens Road at 4:07am on Monday 7 April 2025. Sadly, a 51-year-old woman was found dead on arrival. We can now confirm her identity as Clare Burns. Following initial enquiries, we arrested a 55-year-old man at the scene on suspicion of murder. Leonard Lee Stewart (8.4.70) of Queens Road, Manchester, has today (Tuesday 8 April 2025) been charged with murder.

Stewart will appear at Manchester City Magistrates’ Court tomorrow.

Detective Inspector Emma Hulston said previously: ‘The thoughts of the entire investigation team remain with the victim’s family at this time.

‘We are committed to getting answers for them and establishing what occurred.

‘We understand this investigation will raise concerns in the local community, but I would like to reassure the public that we believe this to be an isolated incident with no wider threat to the public.

‘Officers will be conducting their enquiries at the address, so you will see more officers out in the local area.

‘We have a number of additional resources dedicated to this investigation.’
