Two men have died after an aircraft crashed at a racetrack near Ashbourne, Derbyshire.
The light aircraft – reportedly a glider – crashed at the motorcycle racing club, Darley Moor, just before 11.30am.
People have been urged to avoid the area, about three miles from the town, as emergency services remain at the scene.
The police said this afternoon: ‘Family members of the two men have been made aware and our thoughts are with them at this difficult time.
‘A file is being prepared for the coroner.’
The Air Accidents Investigation Branch (AAIB) has launched an investigation.
‘A multidisciplinary team of inspectors are on their way to the accident site,’ the agency said.
Fire officials said firefighters were first called at 11.25am.
‘Fire service resources have since been scaled back, with fire crews from Ashbourne and Wirksworth remaining on scene supporting colleagues from Derbyshire constabulary,’ a spokesperson said.
